Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between 9k and 14k gold?
9k solid gold contains a higher ratio of “non gold” or “other” metal alloys than 14k or 18k. Working in 9k, continues to give you everything you expect from solid gold jewelry; durability, hallmarking, longevity – but at a price point that makes it easier to start (or add to) your collection.
Is 14k solid gold real gold, or is it mixed with other metals?
Yes, it’s real gold. Pure 24k gold is too soft for everyday jewelry, so it’s mixed with other metals for strength.
What’s the difference between solid gold and gold vermeil jewelry?
Solid gold is gold all the way through, while gold vermeil is a thick layer of 18k gold over a sterling silver base.
Does solid gold jewelry tarnish or fade over time?
Solid gold won’t fade or wear away like plating, making it a true forever piece.
Can solid gold jewelry be worn in the shower or pool?
Everyday water is no problem. We’d recommend taking pieces off for chlorinated pools and hot tubs, as chlorine can affect gold and stone settings over time.
Why is 14k solid gold more durable than gold-plated jewelry?
There’s no surface layer to wear away. It’s gold all the way through.
Is solid gold jewelry a good investment compared to gold-plated pieces?
Solid gold is made to be worn for a lifetime, so the cost per wear speaks for itself.
How do I tell if jewelry is solid gold or just gold plated?
Look for a hallmark: 375 for 9k gold and 585 for 14k. Our solid gold pieces are tested by the Assay Office, as required by law.
